Eurovision 2007

Added on May 12th, 2007

Just got back from watching this years Eurovision Song Contest. For those of you who don’t know what it is, it’s basically an annual competition where countries from Europe send a song to be performed live against each other, and once all the participants (24 of them) have finished, the people from those countries then can vote for their favourites by phoning in.

So its a bit like those Idol, or Singstar, or whatever they call those shows these days. Except it’s taken on a whole level higher by pitting countries against each other. What can I say about this year? Well it gets worse and worse with every year, and I don’t even know why I keep watching it every year.

Russian entry in Eurovision 2007

Sure last year was quite funny with Lordi, but these year was really surreal and absurd. I don’t even think that I liked any of the songs (yes, I actually like one or two usually every year, so sue me if they are pop), like last year’s Lordi song. One thing that I did really enjoy this year was the German (I live in Austria, thus German channels) commentator who was more or less slandering every entry once it was over.

I actually started looking forward to the commentary and not the upcoming song. British being British, they made total fools out of themselves like they do every single year, but this year it was really sad. But they gave enough ammunition for the commentator to make three whole jokes in space of 40 seconds about them.

All in all it sucked. Kudos to the commentator though, he was the only reason why it was worth watching it this year. Oh yeah, and of course the Russian girls who looked much nicer on the stage than they do in the picture above.

Oh Mr. T, What Have You Done?

Well well, SGN certainly can be a gold mine from time to time, and I’d like to thank Thot Gor from SGN for finding this clip. It would seem that Mr. T has made a come back, sadly it’s only for an ad campaign for Snickers, so nothing too big, but it’s still great to see him in action.

They have even created a full site for the ad campaign where you can download all sorts of goodies, and it looks like there will be a “Ask Mr. T” section soon. Check it out at Get Some Nuts. And no I’m not being paid for this, just informing the world about the latest happenings of the bestest person ever.

Pinnacle PCTV 400i

So I finally got around into pulling in some new satellite cables into my room so that I could watch TV on my PC once more. After spending a few hours trying to set it all up, I finally got it working. Ended trying out several different players, including the official/supported from Pinnacle, but ended up using DVB Dream as you can see in the screenshot below.

And even so I’m still not quite happy with it, noticeable slowdowns when switching channels, silly favourites system where you have hard coded four categories, and can’t define your own, but still so far it seems to be one the better ones out there.

Now if only they could do something about the quality of shows that they show these days on the TV, then it would be really cool. But I suppose watching TV every now and then is a nice change from the usual.

Anyone else watch TV on their PC? If so, could you tell me what TV card you use, and what software?
