Popomundo 2.0 – Part II

Added on March 8th, 2007

Welcome to part two of my sort of rant about the new style/look of Popomundo. For most parts it would seem that the developers cleaned up the major nuisances about which I posted a few days back. Mainly the navigation, which has now received a background so that it isn’t any more painful to look at. It could however use some better(read: more) spacing between the links.

Is This Really Amsterdam?

The main annoyance still remains though. Even though I’m willing to bet that the artist who made these probably put in a lot of time in making these, and some of them are really great. The most of them are just horrible, not from design point of view, but from the idea behind it. Each city in Popomundo has its own banner, and the one above is for Amsterdam. These banners are supposed to represent each city. And sadly most of the city banners are just wrong, at best heavy handed on stereotyping. I wish that more thought had been put into these, because the effort that was put into the drawings themselves is great.

Buenos Aires Popomundo Style

Having said that, the new style with the new fixes has been growing on me slowly. I really like the expanded areas for user images. But there’s still more that could be done to improve it. Quite a few large bits of wasted empty space in the middle of the design, and not enough separation of content so it clashes with each other.

And I’m not even going to say anything about the HTML/CSS(or lack thereof), because that’s one major mess up they made. I mean how can you spend so much time on making a design for the new decade and completely forget about bringing the code up to standards as well?

How To NOT Do Web2.0

Added on March 6th, 2007

When I first saw it, I thought there was something wrong with my monitor, or maybe that I had taken some drugs without knowing it. Or maybe both combined. The developers of Popomundo, a popular online game about which I have written previously about already, decided that the webpage/game needed a design overhaul. And I agree with them, it did need an overhaul, but not this.

New Popomundo Design - Or How Not To Do Web2.0

This is just a travesty of Web2.0 or even design itself. I could sit here all day long and list reasons of why it sucks, and there are more than enough by just looking at the welcome screen. If you have an account, then do login and have a look at even more travesties. It’s really unbelievable how something like this could happen. What were they thinking, or rather on what drugs were they when they decided that this was a good idea?

Now here’s a homework for you all. What drugs and what amount of said drugs would you need to take in order to think that this was a good decision? That’s something that I’d like to know.

I won’t even mention that they didn’t even bother to use this opportunity to clean up their HTML/CSS. It’s still rubbish, probably even worse off now, since I doubt that they will be doing any updates to the looks now, other than to possibly revert back to the old design. It’s unbelievable, I’m still shocked.

Some Popomundo Art

Added on February 24th, 2007

Today’s post will be about the various pieces of graphical work that I have done over the years of playing Popomundo. For those of you who don’t know what Popomundo is, it’s an online web browser based game set in the real world where your character starts a music career. It’s a game where the players strive for fame and money in a virtual music industry basically.

Jonny’s Queen     Nothing Lasts On Speed

That’s four of the eight or so album/single covers that my band, “Paranoid Android” has released in the game. All in all it’s a fun game, can get boring after a while, but that really depends on the person, I’ve been playing now for over 700 days and counting. Oh yeah and here’s the band banner as well.
